Where to buy antron fleece in Australia?
Please note: this post only applies to buying antron fleece in Australia. If you are from another country, I would suggest visiting The Puppetry Homepage, UNIMA USA, or UNIMA UK, or Puppets and Stuff.
This is a popular question... but unfortunately, I don't know the answer. I haven't found any places in Australia that do sell antron fleece (the material used to cover muppet-types, favoured by most puppet makers), and that's disappointing.
However, I can offer this advice:
- Spotlight sells a cheap (from $AUD 14.95 p/metre) fleece, both in non-pill and regular. I've found that recently, the number of colours and patterns of the fleece have increased, with some really fantastic materials. One I bought just last week is pale blue with pink, purple and green polka dots. Perfect for a monster muppet! But they also have plain colours, with everything from purple, to browns, to creams. It may not be antron fleece, but it does make for a good, cheap substitute.
- Try ordering some materials from overseas. Project Puppet.com lists their supplier, and you can always contact them and see if the supplier has any sellers in Australia. Or you could order direct from them. Presumably, the more expensive option of the two. There are also a number of puppet makers in the US who often sell scrap materials or fleece by the yard; check Etsy.com or eBay.
I wish I had more information to offer; it's a tough one to research.
If you know of any places within Australia that sell antron fleece, please leave a comment and let me know - I'll add it to the post!
