This list is by no means definitive, but it is a good start. I will add to it over time if I think of anything new. Read the list of useful materials for puppet-making here. There are also more specific tools lists posted in each puppet type's categories. Want to know where to buy puppet materials in Australia? Click here.
- Pens and pencils (especially pencils)
| | |
- Rulers, including metre long, 30cm long, and scale rulers
| - Pliers; more than one pair
| - Scissors; a good one for cloth, and another one for cutting paper
|
- Screwdrivers, including different size bits
| | |
- Hot glue gun; be sure to get one with a trigger
| - Cutting mat; I find that a wooden board used for cutting bread on makes for a good strong cutting mat
| - Sandpaper, all thicknesses
|
| | |
- Storage units, good for keeping materials stored, as well as puppets
| - Batteries, double A and triple A come in handy
| - Extension cords; remember to use earthed ones!
|
- First aid kit! I never go anywhere without one
| - Paintbrushes, of all thicknesses
| - Varnish; if I need only a small amount of gloss on something (like a pupil), I use nail polish. Use in ventilated area though!
|
- Pocketknife or swiss army knife; always handy!
| - Pins (dressmaking) and safety pins
| |
- Dressmaker's pen or chalk
| - Camera!!! You should always take photos of your finished puppet
| - Gaffa tape. Don't buy cloth tape (there's a difference); good gaffa can only be bought through theatre equipment companies
