Thank god for Firefox
Something happened last night. I was checking my emails when I lifted my laptop slightly off my lap to reach over to the couch, where the Green Guide was sitting. I had trouble holding the laptop, while also trying to avoid knocking over the various glasses sitting on the coffee table - between the couch and me - but held it all together. One minute, my browser was on Yahoo… the next minute, after picking up the Guide, I couldn't even connect to the wireless. My computer is known to have connection issues, but only when at the back of the house. In the lounge, which is where I was sitting, I'm no more than two metres from the modem, and from the 'Strong' wireless area.
I disconnected, reconnected, troubleshooted, reset the modem, and now, checked someone else's computer, and reinstalled my wireless driver. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. I can't have possibly internally damaged my laptop just from lifting it off my lap… could I? Anyway, to my frustration, I just wanted to check whether I got orders from the store, but then realised my email for the store goes directly to my laptop's Outlook: ok, I have a back-up. I can login via web email, because copies are stored by my web host account. … But what's the password? I have so many, my browser saves them automatically, and I never remember half of them. I have combinations so that it's safer… but there's no redundancy built in.
Luckily, I can access a few of them via my Firefox browser. I'd even forgotten what my password was for this blog!
My parents are away for the weekend, so there's no asking the household tech, Dad, for some help until they get home. At which point, I'll be thoroughly frustrated that I hadn't built in a redundancy system. All of my various sites that I visit are on my laptop; all of my files; and the simplest way to make a backup is to email myself a copy of some of the stuff…. and that would work if I could connect to the net.
Even the Windows troubleshooter is out to get me: it asked me to check a list of drivers on the Windows website… which naturally I couldn't do, because I can't connect! What sort of dumbass system is that?
Anyway, now I'm having to 'borrow' my sister's laptop (shh, don't tell her!
) until I can reuse mine. Hopefully I'll be back blogging normally tomorrow. Please say a prayer to the net god, so I can get back my laptop!!!
