Opening this weekend!
Read previous post - building the feet - here.
So there haven’t been posts for a while - sorry!
This has been partially due to the fact that I’ve been getting ready for City Head, and partially because I’ve just started a new job.
Anyway, City Head has been going fine; tech run on Monday proved we needed to polish a few areas, but hey, that’s what tech is all about! Saturday we open, and we’re very nervous but excited.
… Back to puppets in general though. I’ve just bought myself a new book - how to make marionettes - and reading it has really made me aware of just how much I’ve learned in the past few months about building and designing puppets.
Upon reading about how to make moveable eyes for a marionette, I quickly realised that a suggestion there could easily apply to one of my muppets with the blinking eyes. The puppeteer, having very little ‘feeling’ ability to know when the blinking eyes roll too far into the head, finds it difficult to control this in performance. But with the idea from the marionettes, I may be able to quickly and easily solve this by inserting a piece of dowel into the head to ’stop’ the eyes from rolling to far back.
It’s also made me think a lot about my Lego city that I made; I haven’t posted anything about it here because I want to keep much of it under wraps until the show is over.
However, just like the muppet, Doc, I documented the build and design very carefully, and have heaps of photos during the building process. However, what I didn’t do is write down what I did, step-by-step, and I’m keen to do that.
I’m still not sure whether I want that documentation to be part of public viewing, so I may post it here after the show has closed for all to see, or I may write it up and post it only for friends to view… Either way, please come back and see what happens.
I’m already gearing up for the next show - planned for next year - so I may have some interesting things to say about that over the next few months.
In the meantime, please go to www.comedyattrades.com.au and buy yourselves some VERY cheap tickets to see City Head. At $7 adult and $5 concession, it’s a very inexpensive show during the Comedy Festival time.
